POC Raceday wins inaugural Bicycle Brand Contest

Raceday_wallPOC, a leading manufacturer of helmets, eyewear, body armor, apparel and accessories has been chosen as a category winner for the POC Raceday collection at the first ever Bicycle Brand Contest (BBC) 2016. POC Raceday has been developed in collaboration with POC aerodynamic experts and pro cyclists, riding grand tours and the Olympics, and represents no compromise road racing performance. Stefan Ytterborn, POC CEO and founder said - ‘We are incredibly proud that POC Raceday has been selected as the category winner for clothing by the Bicycle Brand Contest (BBC) jury. We know that being competitive in road racing comes down to the very finest of margins, so we set about creating a range of products in Raceday which focused on efficiency and performance to ensure a racers power output was optimized.’ POC Raceday research and development has incorporated CFD simulations and extensive wind tunnel testing together with the aerodynamic specialists in POC’s in house aerodynamic experts, WATTS Lab. Raceday testing studied the specific challenges in road cycling performance and importantly not only what to focus on, but also where to focus, in order to improve aerodynamic efficiency. Stefan Ytterborn, POC CEO, continued – ‘In a lab environment we studied how different structures, fabrics and designs can support riders and improve their aerodynamic efficiency. By using the experience and knowledge from textile engineers and technologists, we have carefully researched fabrics, incorporated different technologies and worked with different panels which are then strategically placed on a rider for aerodynamic efficiency and minimal drag. For example, the 3D warp knitted dimpled fabric around the shoulders and back reduces airflow turbulence.` POC, which was founded in 2005 in Sweden, with a strong mission ‘to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists’ first entered to road bike scene with the AVIP collection in 2014. Stefan Ytterborn, continued - ‘creating POC was a big step, but from day one our vision, to offer the best in terms of personal protection, was crystal clear and we wanted to support athlete safety with products of unquestionable quality and relevance. AVIP (Attention, Visibility, Interaction, Protection) was our first road specific collection and focused on the needs of high performance cyclists, especially when training. Raceday was a natural next step for us and with the experience we gained in making AVIP we felt we could create something unique, incorporating the DNA of our mission with ultimate performance.
