POC presents SPIN and Clarity - brand new innovations

POC, which has built a reputation on safety, innovation and design, announces several new major innovations for its 2017/18 snow collection, in particular, SPIN, which is a brand new and unique helmet technology created to counter the effects of oblique impacts, and Clarity, which brings a new level of technology to performance and race goggle lenses. Other new products and innovations for the 17/18 season include a new base layer ski protection system, POC Layer, a new innovative breakaway and adjustable slalom chin guard, Maxilla, a new competition back protector, Spine VPD System Comp and new children’s, POCito helmets which feature SPIN and integrated lights for enhanced safety on the mountain. POC CEO, Jonas Sjögren, said “I am very proud that we are presenting several new and exciting innovations for the 17/18 winter season. Over the last ten years POC has developed a wealth of knowledge around helmet technology, materials and design, and SPIN, which stands for ‘Shearing Pad INside’, is our brand new patent pending rotational impact protection system. Working with medical experts in POC Lab we know that oblique impacts are common and can cause serious head injury due to a rotation of the helmet and head. To counter oblique impacts, we have created SPIN pads, which are optimized to provide rotational impact protection based on the precise location inside the helmet and which can shear in any direction. The objective is to minimize the effects of an oblique fall by allowing the helmet to move relative to the head. We are particularily excited to introduce SPIN, which will feature in a number of the 17/18 season helmets, as it is at the very heart of our mission and introduces a new level of helmet technology, comfort and protection.” POC, a leading manufacturer of helmets, eyewear, body armor and apparel, has been awarded more than 50 international safety, design, and innovation awards. Founded in 2005 in Sweden, POC’s mission is ‘to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists’. POC CEO, Jonas Sjögren, continued – “The POC mission is at the very centre of the development process, as illustrated with our brand new goggle lens technology, Clarity. We work closely with professional ski racers and understand that their vision is the gateway to performance and decision making. Clarity has been developed with industry leaders, Carl Zeiss, to provide unique, highly tuned and specific base tints, which provide enhanced contrast and light. Better vision will support performance with more precise turns and faster reactions, but Clarity can also improve an athlete’s safety and ability to react to dangers. Clarity will come in two categories, Clarity and Clarity comp, which have base tints tuned to all day precision on the mountain and intense short term competition needs. Clarity will be available in some existing goggle models, but we will also release a brand new goggle, Orb Clarity, for 17/18.” Other new products and highlights SPIN and Clarity will be shown at both SIA and ISPO in the coming days and weeks. In addition, POC will also introduce a host of new products. One such innovation is POC Layer, a base layer system to protecting ski racers from the cuts, abrasions and injuries typically associated with ski racing. POC layer is a base layer that maintains a high level of functionality: comfort, breathability, compression, warmth and wicking, but also integrates Dyneema® fabric which adds a significant level of cut resistance. The detachable and adjustable Maxilla break away chin bar guard is another brand new innovation for the 17/18 season. Motivated by the mission and a wish to reduce neck injuries, the Maxilla has been designed to release at different forces. Maxilla has been designed to meet the needs of different types of Slalom racers and courses with an innovative and simple self-adjustment system, which gives racers all the flexibility and safety they need for training and race day. The Spine VPD System Comp Back is a dedicated back protector for ski racers or skiers who want the ultimate performance back protector. Based on POCs patented VPD (Visco-elastic Polymer Dough) technology, the vest also includes a woven fabric, uses monofilament threads and a Kevlar reinforced barrier to establish resistance and anti-penetration around the spine. Extreme ventilation channels and flexibility ensure that the vest is also extremely comfortable and features low bulk thanks to seamless glue technology to minimize all additional fabric. A further innovation for the 17/18 season is the new Auric Cut POCito SPIN which offers serious safety for kids on the mountain. The helmet, which will feature POC’s patent pending rotational impact protection system, SPIN, is also enhanced with a Recco reflector and an integrated LED panel at the back of the helmet to ensure parents never lose sight of their young ones. A brand new collection of products will also be released to support American downhillers. POC is a proud supporter of American downhiller and has created a specific product collection to support the athletes and all that is great about American downhill skiing. Notes to editors POC will be showing all the new items at SIA and ISPO. Details are – SIA snow show – January 26 - 29, 2017.
